A blend of strong traditions and modern innovation dripping in evocative splendour (and bling!), this is a city that really has it all.
The sheer ridiculousness (is that even a word?) of what this city not only dreams up, but actually creates is awe-inspiring and quite literally a sight to behold from its world famous hi-rise hotels to the outrageous and sublime man-made palm islands.
This is also a shopping haven with two annual shopping festivals not to miss. With incredible mega-malls that offer an experience far beyond the mundane of simply browsing from store to store. Visit a Persian palace or Italian palazzo, go skiing at the indoor slope or check out the giant aquarium. Want more tradition, head to the souqs for some old-skool bartering and keep an eye out for future developments, they're popping up all the time, so blink and you might miss them.
When night falls, head to one of the glitzy hotels or beach clubs to indulge in sublime cocktails under the stars or listen to live music and dance the night away. Catering for pretty much all tastes there's something for everyone and if you're after a more traditional night out, head to a local shisha bar or take in the latest performance at the new Dubai Opera.
Although heavily rooted in Islamic tradition, Dubai's open society makes it easy for newcomers and visitors to connect with a wealth of experiences, be it dancing on the beach, eating like a Bedouin, riding a camel in the desert or simply shopping for local art, it's a relaxed environment perfect for breaking down cultural barriers and preconceptions.
With daily averages ranging from 20°C to 40°C November to March is the best time to visit if you'd prefer to keep the temperature below 30°C. Rainfall is minimal though it has been increasing over the past few decades but you probably won't need to worry too much about packing your umbrella - unless its to keep the sun of your back.
There's so much to do and see in the incredible, opulent desert city, it really is a must see destination so book your next trip now.
