Mallorca, also known as Majorca to a lot of British tourists, is the largest of the Balearic Islands and is extremely popular for those looking for their annual summer holiday. But what most don’t know is that it also a beautiful place to visit the rest of the year too.

Mallorca boasts beautiful beaches, hot summers, and mild winters. Along with an array of activities, plenty of accommodation, stunning scenery, and local cuisine, all you need to do is choose which month you’ll visit.

Weather during January

January is undoubtedly one of the colder months in Mallorca, though temperatures are mild compared to the UK and if you’re looking for a winter break, what better way to start the year!

Highs of 15°c and average temperatures of 10° over 7 hours will give you enough sunlight to have a full day of relaxation or adventure. While the weather may be too cold to spend the whole day at the beach, it can still be enjoyed for an hour or two, especially if you pack some games to keep yourself entertained and warm.

Cala Santanyi Beach in the southeast is a lovely spot with fine sand and clear waters. The area is pretty big, and it’ll feel even bigger as you walk along the beach in January because it will be free from crowds.

If the beach isn’t your thing or the weather simply isn’t warm enough, think about doing a little exploring instead. Visit La Seu Cathedral in Palma for its stunning interior, gothic style architecture and stained-glass windows – this really is a huge monument not to be missed. Go when the sun is shining and it will give you some exquisite reflections inside.

Weather during February

With similar temperatures to January, we’re still in the low season and while Mallorca is quiet now, there are some great benefits to travelling in February.

Highs of 17°c and averages of 13° make the outdoors enjoyable, and although the sea is too cold, you can make the most of 6 hours of sun on dry land. Cycling is perfect and will let you cover so much ground, without the crowds too you’ll be able to see some beautiful scenery including the almond blossom that decorates the island.

There are various festivals in February, as well as Valentine’s Day where Mallorca is transformed into a romantic paradise for couples. Include a sunset from any of the beautiful beaches and you’re really in for a treat.

You should expect around 5 rainy days in February and breezes will be light but cool. If you’re looking for a quiet break without too many tourists and a cooler climate, this month is the one for you.

Weather during March

The climate in March is similar to that of January and February and is therefore an ideal time to travel if you're looking for low prices and opportunities for some sightseeing.

High temperatures of 17°c and only 5 days of rain over the entire month means outdoor activities are on the cards. Walking and hiking are a fantastic thing to do in Mallorca and if you make your way up to the lighthouse of Capdepera you’ll get some incredible views of the sky, turquoise waters, and surrounding areas. Take your phone for some great shots.

Do bear in mind that if can be breezy at times and if this is the case, head indoors to the Joan Miró Museum which is the former home and studio of famous artist Joan Miró – a must for art lovers or those who want to discover something unique.

The sea remains at 15° so it is too cold for swimming, therefore booking accommodation with a pool would be advantageous.

A walk on the beach is not out of the question and with up to 9 hours of sunshine per day, try either Cala Mesquida or Cala Tuent for a pleasant stroll.

Weather during April

The seasons change now, and spring is here – you’ll get 10 hours per day of sun along with 19°c highs. Lows of 11° will still make for chilly nights, but nothing should put you off visiting Mallorca in April and you’ll want to make the most of the pleasant days you’ll experience.

On the north coast, it is worth visiting Alcudia Old Town where you can walk along the narrow and winding streets that offer cafés and boutiques, as well as visiting churches, the town hall, and art galleries. 

With little rain forecast and long days, not to mention a lot more facilities have opened now – this is a perfect time to take in the island’s culture and history.

The sea temperature has improved by 1° over March but is still too cool to swim in, thankfully that doesn’t rule out a few hours at the beach though. Es Carbó is a beach with no amenities and plenty of peace and quiet. You can easily relax here as you take in the natural beauty of the sand dunes, shrubs, and blue waters.

Weather during May

Temperatures hit the early 20’s in May meaning you can comfortably sit on the beach and with 12 hours of sun, you can begin to work on your tan.

Cala Pi Beach is stunning and certainly worth a day trip, especially if your accommodation is not close by. Golden sands are enclosed within cliffs, pine trees, and vegetation. The views are impeccable, the winds minimal, and the sea is turquoise and calm. Add in the nearby restaurants and you’ve got the making of a superb day out. The sea has warmed to 18° which may be enough for some to take a quick dip. Otherwise, simply enjoy the waves lapping over your feet as you walk along the shore.

Heading away from the beach, you might be looking for something a bit livelier – if so, we’d suggest horse riding, a vineyard tour, or visiting Katmandu Park which offers a host of entertainment including golf, 4D adventures, laser challenges, and lots more.

Before the crowds descend and the weather gets too hot, May is the opportune time to discover the many corners of Mallorca.

Weather during June

June will give you high temperatures of 26° and averages of 20°. You’ll also get warmer nights too, meaning you’ll be able to socialise well into the evening if you so wish.

The beach will be calling in June and the weather is good enough now to spend the day there. The sea will be 19° and tempting you to take a swim. 

Cala d’or, located in the east, boasts 5 small beaches – all with fine sand, clear waters, and sun loungers to hire. If you want to stretch your legs or enjoy some lunch at one of the nearby restaurants, why not do this in between beach hopping to really make the most of the sunshine.

You’re bound to be spending more time outdoors in June and with 12 hours of sun, little chance of rain, and good temperatures, you won’t want to forget your sun cream.

Weather during July

You won’t experience any temperatures below 20°c for the next couple of months and this is one reason that the island will be busy. Summer season is in full swing, and Mallorca will be brimming with families now schools have closed.

Rain is pretty much unheard of and replaced with 13-hour days of sun, blue skies and 24° sea.

To witness a truly natural beach that offers forestry and mountain views, we’d recommend Cala Agulla. It has soft white sand and clear shallow waters, making it ideal for families with younger children. Those with bigger kids can take advantage of the water sports on offer – the sea will be the perfect temperature to try jet skiing, snorkelling, and kayaking. 

We know many of you long for a beach holiday, however, there are tourists that prefer to see as much of a destination as possible. For an unforgettable experience, visit Serra de Tramuntana – a mountainous region in the northwest. You will understand why it is declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO, thanks to its unspoilt natural beauty, incredible views, and cobblestone paths. There are multiple routes that you can walk, making it ideal for most tourists.

Accommodation and flights are more expensive this month and you’ll find they get booked up quickly, so to avoid disappointment, find your preferred accommodation well in advance.

Weather during August

Similar to July, August boasts high temperatures between 29-31°c, 24° averages, and even the lows of 18° mean you’ll get uninterrupted glorious weather throughout your stay.

As much as us Brits love to get some summer sun (let’s face it, it doesn’t happen often enough in the UK!), it can sometimes be a little overwhelming – thankfully though there are enough activities to keep us cool when needed.

Visting Palma Aquarium will give you some much-needed shade when the sun is at its hottest (usually mid-afternoon). This place is perfect for those that want to get up close to marine life without actually going into the sea. You’ll be amazed at the different species and marvel at their beauty.

If you’ve come to Mallorca with one thing in mind – to party – then head straight to Magaluf. It has everything from restaurants to trendy bars, to vibrant nightclubs. During the day you can enjoy the lively beach where you can hire a sun lounger and relax the day away or take part in some fun water activities. There is a real buzz here and it’s mostly made up of younger tourists that love the party scene. You’ll also find that August is host to a variety of festivals and the island is undoubtedly the busiest of the year.

Weather during September

The climate remains pleasant during September and although many tourists have returned to work and school, the island is still bustling with beachgoers and sightseers.

High temperatures of 28°c will tempt people to the beach and if you’re hoping for things to be a little quieter, then visit Cala Mondrago on the southeast coast. A secluded sandy beach with light blue waters. You won’t get any water sports here, although you can enjoy a relaxing pedal boat outing and at 25°, the sea is excellent for snorkelling.

Not minding a few crowds or lively atmosphere, why not try a beach in the opposite direction and head north to Playa de Alcudia – the largest beach on the islands. It's Blue Flag awarded, with white sand and calm waters, as well as a whole host of facilities, water sports, and bars and restaurants within touching distance.

Moving away from the beach, visit Pollensa – an ancient rural town boasting stone architecture, stunning buildings, churches, Pont Romà, and museums.

Mallorca holds something for every type of tourist, from beaches to medieval history and September is the perfect month to discover it all thanks to the clear skies, dry days (rain is forecast between 6 and 8 days), and calm winds that this time of year brings.

Weather during October

October sees some slight changes in climate, although you may be pleasantly surprised that this month still brings some enjoyable weather with it.

High temperatures of 24°c means outdoor activities are still possible, and with averages of 18° you can comfortably roam around and make the most of the island now it is much quieter.

Visiting the beach seems like a far cry from back in the UK, but Mallorca weather lets you spend a few hours soaking up the sun. El Toro Beach is a beautiful spot with golden sand, clear waters, and surrounding red rocks. This spacious beach will seem huge with fewer tourists at this time of year, and it is an ideal place if you want to relax (compared to the summer months when it is extremely popular).

At 22° the sea is a comfortable temperature to swim in and if you do bring younger children, the shallow water will be ideal here.

For something a little different, we’d recommend a trip to the Caves of Arta. Here you can take a guided tour around this spectacular setting that holds stalagmites, limestone rock, and some amazing natural formations – you will not be disappointed.

Now out of season, accommodation will have gone down in price but just bear in mind that you may see rain because it is forecast for 11 days over the month, mornings and evenings will be cooler, and the weather can be unpredictable. If you do want that last feel of the summer though, visit Mallorca now.

Weather during November

As Mallorca prepares for winter, the island becomes calm and quiet – perfect for a romantic getaway or for those that enjoy a peaceful retreat.

The climate changes significantly from now and with only 5 hours of sun, the days will feel a little shorter. High temperatures of 19° may tempt you to the beach for a couple of hours while the sun is out, though with averages of 13° and lows of 8°, it would be wise to take a jumper. At 19°, some people can enjoy a quick dip in the sea, but compared to the summer months there will be hardly anyone around.

It might be worth hiring a car throughout your stay and do some beach hopping. Discover some beautiful scenery and natural landscape while there aren’t any crowds. Sa Coma, Es Port, and Cala Major are some of the beaches that you don’t want to miss.

Rainfall is forecast for 12 days out of the 30 so make sure to pack the right clothing – bring your swimwear if you are staying in accommodation with a pool and don’t forget your raincoat just in case.

You will find restaurants and bars remain open, although this can depend on which part of the island you are staying in. For instance, if you visit Palma, most shops, venues, and activities will be open. Just take into consideration that there may be reduced opening hours and you’ll most likely need to book in advance.

November brings a mixture of weather – one day you could be sunbathing on the beach and the next you are caught in a storm. Pack for all conditions and enjoy some time away during one of the quieter months.

Weather during December

If you’ve never travelled in December – Mallorca would be a fabulous place to start! Not only are facilities and tours still available, you also get the festive buzz around the island that is an absolute delight. 

Temperatures are on the low side with averages of 11°c and highs of just 16°. Don’t let this put you off though, choose warmer clothes and appropriate footwear, and you’ll have an unforgettable time.

The wind picks up this month and it’s likely you’ll see some rain during your stay (12 days are forecast). This means you’re probably not going to spend the day at the beach – take your jacket though and it will still be enjoyable to stroll along the sand and take in your surroundings. Cala Millor Beach on the east coast is made up of white sand, clear waters, and palm trees – an idyllic contrast to back in the UK!

December is an ideal time to go hiking or cycling. If you venture up to the mountains, not only will you see some incredible views, but there’s also the chance of there being snow.

Christmas brings celebrations, festivals, markets, and decorations all over the island. There will be a buzz of excitement with locals joining in the fun and you’ll really get a feel for the traditions and way of living in Mallorca.
